Pick Up/Drop Off Procedures

***** Converse Elementary Drop-off/Pick Up Procedures*****

(for Car Riders and Walkers)

As you begin reading the following procedures, please keep in mind that we are a PK-2 building; therefore, given our children's ages, safety measures during drop-off and pick-up times is of the utmost importance. Despite your own child's ability to make good choices and to follow your expectations, please keep in mind that procedures must be developed and followed in order to keep things safe for all 380+ three to eight year olds attending our school. We enforce these procedures strictly to ensure all children's safety. Thank you for your cooperation in following these procedures. Your choice to follow these procedures models for your child the importance of following rules and procedures for the good of a larger group. Please feel free to offer any suggestions during the year on ways to improve these procedures. We are always willing to listen and looking for ways to serve you and your child better!

A.M. Drop-off Procedures for Converse Elementary/between 7:45-7:55 a.m

  • Outside supervision does not begin until 7:45 so no child should be dropped off prior to that time.

  • Cars should never park along the curb in front of any part of our building from 7:45-8:10 on any school day.

  • The parking lot to the west end of the second grade wing is used for the buses in the morning. Please do not use that parking lot for dropping off.

  • For students arriving between 7:45 and 7:55, all need to be dropped off at the library doors (door #2). They will enter those doors and go into the gym or go to the cafeteria if they eat breakfast at school.

  • If you see an adult standing outside, then it more than likely is after the 7:55 bell and kindergarteners can be dropped off at the library doors (door #2), first graders at the main entrance (door #1), and second graders at the second grade doors (door #3). Also, if an adult is not outside then it is more than likely after 8:10 and you will need to park your car and walk him/her into the building in order to sign your child in at the office.

  • Please pull into our main driveway, pull up to your drop-off location and drop your student off at the designated door. When dropping off your child it is far safer for your child to exit your car on the passenger side of your vehicle, directly onto the sidewalk.

  • If you plan to come into the building with your child, then we ask that you park in the front or north parking lot. Please keep your child with you as you cross our parking lot and lane.

Dropping off after 7:55 a.m.:

  • Please pull into our main driveway, you can drop off at any door that is most convenient for your child. Typically that would be kindergarteners at the library doors (door #2), first graders at the main entrance (door #1), and second graders at the second grade doors (door #3). When dropping off your child it is far safer for your child to exit your car on the passenger side of your vehicle.

  • If you plan to come into the building with your child, then we ask that you park in the front or north parking lot. Please keep your child with you as you cross our parking lot and lane.

P.M. Pick-up Procedures for Converse Elementary…

  • Live Yers childcare service is available after school at Sweetser Elementary. Children will be able to ride an OH bus to Sweetser after school. Contact the YMCA for more information about that program and our transportation department to arrange for bus services.

  • Bus Riders are dismissed at 2:52 and will exit out the second grade doors on the west end of the building to the buses. Car riders and walkers are dismissed following bus dismissal.

  • Request a transportation pass from the office if you anticipate at any time picking your child up at dismissal.

  • If you are calling the school to change dismissal plans it is very important to call prior to 2:30 pm so we have adequate time to get the change conveyed to your child and to your child's teacher.

Car Riders are dismissed around 3:00 after buses have exited the parking lot:

  • Car riders will are able to pull up to the school's entrance upon arrival or park in any of the parking lots to come in to pick up your child in the cafeteria. All car riders will need to be picked up in our cafeteria. We ask that parents not enter the school until buses pull out in order to help not complicate dismissal of the bus riders traveling through the building. The doors will not be unlocked until buses have left the parking lot. A person will need to come into the school with a transportation pass to pick up his/her child from our cafeteria.Without that pass, the individual will be required to go to the office to let us make sure we have parent permission to release the child to that person. Transportation passes can be picked up at registration, Open House, or from the office at any time. Please make sure to continue to use the transportation pass throughout the year. If additional passes are needed at any time, just call the office.

  • If on occasion you have an appointment and you need to pick your child up quickly after dismissal, we suggest you come early in order to be one of the first in line, which should allow for a 3:00 pick up, or plan to pick your child up prior to dismissal and before 2:45.

Please make arrangements to pick up your child no later than 3:05/3:10 each day. If you are running late, please call the office to let us know that.

  • Students can be picked up at Oak Hill High School if you prefer to not get out of your vehicle. Parents with multiple children in multiple buildings often report this as being the most convenient plan for their families. All students can ride a shuttle bus to the high school. You can pick your child up at the high school around 3:05 which allows you to do so prior to the junior high/high school dismissal.

Student Walkers:

  • Walkers will be dismissed from the north end of the building. We will walk the children to the end of the school's property and then dismiss them to continue on their own. The city of Converse provides a crossing guard on State Road 18.

  • During dismissal, walking parents are encouraged to go to the main entrance of the building to pick up their child in the cafeteria. Your child will be treated as a “car rider” so as not to send him/her on her own out the north end of our building. If you arrive early, please wait outside the building until the buses have dismissed. We ask that you also use a transportation pass to help us expedite dismissing the students.
