MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING

HELD

November 14, 2006

Prior to the official meeting on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, the Board of Trustees of the Oak Hill United School Corporation toured the high school and heard a report of the construction progress.  The Board of Trustees then met in the Administration Office at 7:30 pm..  All Board Members were present except Toby Middlesworth.  Also present were Superintendent James W. Smith, Recording Secretary Norma Sweeten, Joel Martin, Greg Perkins, Mike Keaffaber, Terry Renbarger, Valree Kinch, Bill Bishop, Ruth Davies, and Patti Lehman.  Representing the news media was Mike Duncan of WBAT Radio.                

1.         CALL TO ORDER

Mr. Dubois, Vice-President, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.       

2.         MOMENT OF REFLECTION

            Mr. Pearson opened the meeting with reflection and prayer.

 3.         PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

            Mr. Dubois led the Pledge of Allegiance.

4.          MINUTES APPROVED

By consensus, the minutes of the regular meeting and the Executive Session of October 24, 2006, and the Special Meeting and Executive Session of October 31, 2006, were approved as submitted.

6.         CONTINUING BUSINESS

A.  Consideration of Approval of Teacher Seniority List

Mr. Smith stated that according to Board Policy 3131, the teacher seniority list is required to be posted in each building for 45 days annually. With this requirement being met, he asked the Board to consider approving the 2006-07 seniority list.

7.         NEW BUSINESS

            A.  Consideration of Fundraising Requests

Mr. Smith noted that there were two fundraising requests from the high school.  The FFA requested permission to conduct its annual sale of citrus fruit

from November 15th through December 22nd.  The Student Council asked to again sponsor a sausage and pancake breakfast on November 25th.

Mike Keaffaber, Principal

·        Praised the PTO for the skating party last month and Donuts for Dad event. 

·        Praised 95% attendance at the Parent-Teacher conferences.

·        Praised the Veterans’ Day program and the new 4th grade choir and Mrs. Lamkin.

·        Praised Kevin Miller for the work on the Hoop Shoot and the boy winners Beau Clouser, Cody White, and Andrew Wood and girl winners Natalie Strauser, Geralyn Miller, and Monica Nall.

Swayzee Elementary

Terry Renbarger, Principal

·        Praised Kevin Miller for his work on the Hoop Shoot and volleyball tournament.

·        Two students on their work on telling the truth.

·        Praised the PTO officers for their work and organization for the great things the PTO does for the schools.

·        Praised the 90% Parent-Teacher attendance.


 

 

Junior High School

Greg Perkins, Principal

·        Praised the 101 students for perfect attendance, 31 students for making straight A’s, 71 students for making all A’s & B’s, and the 144 students for not being tardy.

·        Praised the fall athletics:  8th grade football team’s advancement to the RRC championship game, the 8th grade girls’ volleyball team’s win of the GBAA championship, the Junior High cross country teams’ wins of the CIC championship and Grant 4 championship for both girls and boys, and the girls’ cross country team’s win of the RRC championship.

Special Services

Bill Bishop, Director

·        Praised the Mild Disabilities teachers Leisa Drook, Connie Hevner and Tracy Petro at Swayzee Elementary.

·        Praised the school psychologists Rick Anderson and Justin Tobey.

Converse Elementary

Valree Kinch, Principal

·        Praised the Parent-Teacher Conference attendance of 97%.

·        Praised Michelle Turanchick and Bobbie Perkins for the Veterans’ Day program.

·        Praised Gary Conway as the Veterans’ Day speaker, the Converse students for their display of the character trait caring, and the high school golf team for their support of Mr. Conway.

High School

Joel Martin, Principal

·        Praised the 726 conversations at the Parent-Teacher conferences.

·        Praised Dawn Torrence for her work with group pictures for the yearbook.

·        Praised Shane Edwards for his work and great job he is doing as interim assistant principal.

·        Praised Tim Eckerle and Jeff Southworth of the Grant Co. Growth Council for assisting Mr. Smith, Joel Martin and Lynn Calloway in attending a conference in Indianapolis.
