 MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING

October 27, 2009

The Board of Trustees of the Oak Hill United School Corporation met at the Administration Office in Mier on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.  All Board Members were present except Kevin Pearson.  Also present were Superintendent Joel Martin, Business Manager Debra Smith, Recording Secretary Norma Sweeten, Valree Kinch, Greg Perkins, Terry Renbarger, Patti Lehman, Mike McDivitt, Nijaul Drollinger,  Teresa Shafer, and Karl Peterson.   Representing the news media was A.J. Colley of the Chronicle Tribune

REGULAR SESSION

1.         CALL TO ORDER
            Mr. Dana Biggs, President, called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.

2.         MOMENT OF REFLECTION

            Mr. Renbarger opened the meeting with reflection and prayer.

3.         PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
            Mr. Biggs led the Pledge of Allegiance.

4.         CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES

By consensus, the minutes of the regular meeting and executive session of October 13, 2009, were approved.

7.         NEW BUSINESS

            A. Consideration of Out of State and Overnight Field Trip Requests

Mr. Martin stated that there were two requests.  One was from the German Club for a ski trip on December 5, 2009, to Michigan.  The other was from Mr. David Henry’s fourth grade class to have a lock-in based on Native American Indian study at Sweetser Elementary on October 30, 2009.

            B.  Consideration of Resolution to Cut 2009 General Fund Budget

            Mr. Martin asked the Board to approve an appropriations cut of $106,798.74 to compensate for federal Stimulus Money used to pay salaries.  Mr. Martin answered questions.

            Vote:                             6 Ayes 0 Nays

C.    Consideration of Blanket Resolution to Cut 2009 and/or 2010 Budgets as Required by DLGF

Mr. Martin asked the Board for authority for the Business Office to cut the budgets in each fund as will be required by the Department
of Local Government Finance.

D.     Consideration of Approval of Teacher Seniority List

Mr. Martin explained that after the 45-day posting requirement had been met, the teacher seniority was ready for consideration.  He answered a question.

            A motion was made to accept regular claims #560 through #652.

9.         ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS

A.  Roofing Report

Mr. Martin introduced Karl Peterson who gave a report of the status of the Oak Hill roofs.  Mr. Peterson and Mr. Martin addressed questions.

B.  Business Manager’s Report and Announcements

Deb Smith said that she had given the Board members a levy excess worksheet for 2009 property taxes.

C.  Superintendent’s Report and Announcements

Mr. Martin said that he had no reports or announcements.

  • Praised Kaylee Cottrell and Chad McCullough for showing responsible behavior.

High School

  • Praised the Show Choir and director Aeron Kincaid.

Junior High

Greg Perkins, Principal

  • Praised the Junior 4-H Gold Soils Team for placing third in the Area VIII contest: Megan Dragstrem, Evan Cannon, and Nolan Holloway.
  • Praised Students of the Month:  Rene Spaulding and Lauren Tibbets.

Sweetser Elementary

Nijaul Drollinger, Principal

  • Praised Landon White, Peyton Bronnenberg, and Tayleigh Sullivan for being caught doing good.

Swayzee Elementary

Terry Renbarger, Principal

  • Praised Chandler Lysell for being the most improved student.

Praised the 5th grade teachers and students for the Library Alive program.

Praised the improved attendance at Swayzee.
