MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING

HELD

June 12, 2007

            The Board of Trustees of the Oak Hill United School Corporation met in the Administration Office on Tuesday, June 12, 2007.  All Board Members were present.   Also present were Superintendent James W. Smith, Business Manager Sandy London, Recording Secretary Norma Sweeten, Joel Martin, Bill Bishop, Terry Renbarger, Bill Bishop, Valree Kinch, Greg Perkins, and Bob King.  There was no news media present.

1.         CALL TO ORDER

Mr. Middlesworth, President, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.   

2.         MOMENT OF REFLECTION

            Mr. Scott Dubois opened the meeting with reflection and prayer.

 

3.         PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

            Mr. Middlesworth led the Pledge of Allegiance.

4.          MINUTES APPROVED

By consensus, the minutes of the regular meeting and the Executive Session of May 22, 2007, were approved as submitted.

6.         CONTINUING BUSINESS

            There was no continuing business.

7.         NEW BUSINESS

            A.  Consideration of Revision to Rainy Day Fund Resolution

            Mr. Smith explained that the Rainy Day Fund Resolution states that it could be used for “unforeseen expenditures“.   The salary and benefit expenses for the position of the Assistant Superintendent from July 1, through December 31, 2007 are “unforeseen expenditures” and therefore can be paid from this fund.

            B.  Consideration of Permission to Raise Funds

Mr. Smith stated that the renovation budget includes funds for outdoor signage.  Bob King, representing the three local Lions Clubs, proposed a plan to provide additional funds to offset the cost of a more expensive sign by selling inscribed bricks for at least $100 each. 

The high school cheerleaders asked permission to hold a car wash on June 16th.

9.         ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS

            Mr. Smith gave an update of the high school renovation project.

Presentations were then heard from the junior high and high school principals, Mr. Perkins and Mr. Martin, regarding each of the schools’ improvement plans.

·        Praised Jenna Becker and Justin Hawkins for       being selected as the character counts                     representatives.

·        Praised National Federation of State Poetry Societies winner Brittany Baker for her poem “Darkness”.

·        Praised Drama award winners, Kaleigh Albertson for best actress and Cameron Weaver for best actor.

·        Praised FCA Award winners:  Trevor Martin, Janelle Green, and Anna Biggs.

·        Praised “Voices in the Hallway Staff winners:  Arielle Dennis, Alissa Combs, Angel Hall and Marlee Sumpter.

·        Praised all the teachers, administrators, and students who brought a sense of pride to the community this past school year.

Swayzee Elementary

·        Praised Braelyn Martin for winning the  Kristopher Taylor Award for great character.

·        Praised Dylan Patuzzi for his character after losing his mother last month.
