About Community:
Sweetser, Indiana is located in Grant County, which is in the north, central part of Indiana. Our community is 5 miles west of Marion on State Road 18, and approximately 60 miles north of Indianapolis and 60 miles south of Ft. Wayne. The town of Sweetser has a population of just over 1100 people.
The majority of our residents work in Marion, with a few working in Kokomo and Huntington, both of which are approximately 30 miles away. Although there is no "major" industry in Sweetser, it does have approximately 15 service-related businesses. The working population of Sweetser is a mixture of white-collar professionals and blue-collar workers.
The socio-economic make-up of Sweetser Elementary is rather unique. Located in what was once a farm dominated, rural community, now over 90% of our students come from homes involved in some occupation other than farming. It is also noteworthy that of our students, only 29% of our students have lived in the Sweetser area all of their lives.
In addition to our own fine school corporation, Sweetser is located in close proximity to many institutions of higher education. Indiana Wesleyan University and IVY Tech State College are located in Marion, while Taylor University is located in nearby Upland, approximately 20 miles away. Ball State University is located in Muncie, which is approximately 50 miles to our south, and Indiana University has an extension in Kokomo. Additionally, Purdue University, Manchester College, Huntington College, Anderson University, St. Frances College, and International Business College are all within a short driving distance from
Sweetser.
