Current Oak Hill Junior High School High Ability Program:
Oak
Hill Junior High School offers accelerated classes in literature and
mathematics in both seventh and eighth grade. The objective of these
courses is to provide a rigorous academic curriculum that promotes
stimulating learning experiences and meaningful intellectual
challenge. Accelerated courses require the highest level of
involvement, effort and commitment from students.
Current accelerated course offerings:
Seventh Grade Pre-Algebra
Seventh Grade Advanced Literature
Eighth
Grade Algebra—students
will receive high school credit
Eighth
Grade Advanced Literature
Students are recommended for accelerated courses by teachers,
counselors and the building principal. Criteria used to determine
placement include: current and past achievement (grades), ISTEP
scores, Acuity scores, placement tests (when applicable), emotional
and social maturity.
Future
Considerations for Junior High Students:
OHJHS
teaching staff will continue to strive to add enrichment activities
and differentiated learning experiences in all academic areas.
These opportunities may include: development of higher level
thinking skills, development of creative thinking and problem
solving skills, independent projects, competitions, and
interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
